Catholic Schools Week is an important and exciting celebration of Catholic schools nationwide. This year, Catholic Schools Week takes place January 31st through February 5th. At Cathedral School, we began the week on Sunday with a “kick-off” Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Mass was followed by our annual Open House for prospective families. Our staff enjoyed meeting with the many families who visited us to learn about Cathedral School. Thank you to all of our visitors!
We have special events planned for each day this week. Monday we are raising money for our sister school, St. Vincent De Paul School in Salem, through “Dollars for Denim/Cents for Sweats”, and a simple soup lunch. The money we raise will be added to the funds raised last week through the coin drive sponsored by our Pre-Kindergarten class.
Tuesday the 2nd and 6th grade students will be visiting St. Vincent De Paul School and taking along a check for St. Vincent De Paul for the total of all our fundraising efforts on their behalf. They will visit the classrooms and eat lunch with the students before returning to Portland.
Wednesday is our annual Special Friends’ Breakfast. Each student has invited a special adult in their life to visit them at school for a delicious breakfast, tours of their classroom and the school, and Mass in the Cathedral with Bishop Peter Smith.
Thursday we’ve invited special guests to visit our students and share their vocations with them. The students were fascinated hearing about our visitors’ careers last year, and we’re excited to introduce them to this years’ slate of guests. We’ll close out our celebration of Catholic Schools Week Thursday night with our annual Talent Show.
Friday is a no-school day as Cathedral School teachers will be meeting with teachers from other Archdiocesan schools for a professional development day. For parents needing it, Extended Care will be open for pre-registered students.
